| Engine 44 |
2004 Elite Custom Pumper, Spartan chassis
Engine 44 is a rescue engine that is first out on all calls in our response area. With enough seating for a crew of four in the back and room for one driver and an officer, this is the most versatile engine we have. When fully staffed this gives us the capability to handle any tasks that a first due engine can be faced with. Engine 44 carries eight Scotts 2.2 low pressure packs and eight spare 30-minute bottles. This allows the arriving crews plenty of air for a working fire.
Engine 44 is equipped with a 1000 gallon water tank and uses a 1500gpm Hale single-stage pump. With one 6-inch intake on either side of the apparatus, this provides for easy placement of the engine. The large intakes provide the ability to flow large amounts of water to fight structure fires. Engine 44 carries a 15 gallon tank of class A and AFFF foam.
There are multiple options available for the firefighter to use for fire suppression. For the average car fire or small residential fires, there is two speedlay of 1? inch lines with 200 feet of hose on each line. There is a nozzle located on both sides of the cab for quick line pulling. The location of the nozzles also allow for easy placement of the engine. With a large interior working fire, such as a barn or fully engulfed structure, the firefighter can choose from a 2? inch 400 ft hose reduced to a 1? inch 150 ft hose with a pre-connected fog nozzle, or a 2? inch 400 ft hose with a pre-connected smooth bore nozzle. There is 400 feet of 3 inch hose that is pre-connected to a blitz gun that can put out 400 to 500 gallons per minute. This gun can be set up to be unmanned in areas that are to dangerous for the firefighters to work in. The engine has one mounted deck gun that is seated by the controls to the pump. The deck gun can flow 1000 gallons per minute for a quick knock down on big fires. The deck gun can be controlled by the MPO. The truck carries 500 feet of 4 inch LDH to deploy for hydrant hook up which could be from either side of the truck. The engine carries one high rise pack of 100 ft of 1? inch hose. Most of our hose, regardless of size, is color coded for ease of identification for the firefighter or MPO to know which line is in use.
For rural firefighting, Engine 44 has 5 feet of hard flexible suction mounted on the front for drafting and two 10 feet of hard suction for side drafting on either side of the truck. There are multiple strainers and a jet siphon to transfer water when using more than one portable tank.
Ground ladders include a 24ft extension ladder, 14ft roof ladder and a 10ft attic ladder. Additional equipment includes a four combustible gas and CO detector, dry chemical ABC fire extinguishers, one hand-held MSA thermal camera for search and rescue and a full allotment of hand tools. Medical supplies include one basic trauma pack, defibrillator and O2.
Engine 44 carries a complete set of Hurst "Jaws of Life" hydraulic rescue tools including spreaders, cutters, rams, and multiple accessories. Hardwood cribbing is on board for vehicle stabilization. There are 4- Rescue 42’s for vehicle stabilization when the vehicle is on its side.

| Tender 45 |
1997 Custom Tender,Freightliner chassis
Tender 45 is the second tanker that follows Engine 44 out for all rural fires and car accidents. Tender 45’s cab and chassis was selected for its capability to hold three firefighters. With three firefighters instead of the normal two, there is plenty of manpower in setting up the portable tank fast and safe. Tender 45’s carries 3400 gal of water and 25ft of 4-inch LDH for hydrant hook up. Tender 45 is used primarily for transporting water to working structure fires or supplying water to brush trucks that are fighting grass fires. The Clinton Fire District is 72 square miles of which 70 square miles is rural.
On board is a 2100 gal portable or "drop tank" that is set up at an engine to draft from. The tender unloads the water through one of three large dump gates in the back. The advantage of having three dump gates, one on each side and one on the back, is to provide more options for setting up the portable tank and the flow of tenders coming in and out. With the dump gate open all the way, we have the ability to dump the whole tank in 5 min.
When filling the tender from a hydrant, we use one 4-inch LDH on the passenger side. It only takes 8 min to fill the tender.
In addition to the water supply duties, Tender 45 can also be used as a roadblock, controlling traffic. The firefighters can deploy 4-foot diameter flags for slowing down or stopping traffic. Tenders provide priceless safety to the firefighter and EMS crews working at the vehicle accident scene.
